10-24-26 8 Weeks Old

This is the best and worst week of raising puppies. After 8 weeks of watching them start their tiny lives and learning to crawl, walk, run, jump, and climb, it's time for them to leave us.  They went from making small mewing noises to barking and growling.  They have developed personalities and beautiful features.  And now they are ready to meet their families.  We said goodbye to three puppies this week: Wrangler, Billy, and Boots.  Even though we are going to miss those sweet puppy snuggles, the joy of watching the puppies meet their new families is the best feeling in the world.  We know these dogs are going to be more than pets, but we can tell by how much they are already loved that they will be an irreplaceable part of 9 new families.  We are looking forward to meeting all of you this week and can't wait for you to see how absolutely adorable these puppies are!

10-17-26 7 Weeks Old

It's the final countdown!  The puppies are starting their 8th week, which means that they are officially old enough to leave their mom.  We will say goodbye to Wrangler this week as he joins his new family.  I will be delivering puppies the week of the 30th to the Salt Lake and Mountain Home area, but anyone is welcome to make pickup arrangements earlier from our home in Blackfoot; just contact me if you are interested!

Now that the puppies are so big, Mama Sage says she is done feeding these cuties, as their sharp teeth give her good incentive to wean!  The puppies have been getting some good wrestling in with Mom and Grandma Bailey so that they will be street-tough and know how to handle themselves!

We are feeding them twice a day currently at breakfast and dinner and offering them water all day long.  You can continue this schedule, or add a third lunchtime feeding if you think your pup could use one more feeding a day.  We give them about 3/4 cup of food each per feeding, but you can continue to add a little if you see they are eating their food quickly.  You may also choose to free feed, which means leaving food out and available all day long as long as your dog is a good self-regulator and not becoming obese.

It is getting nearly impossible to get these wiggly babies to sit still for pictures! It takes a team of kids to help me wrangle puppies and help with the photo shoot.  We started with a scarf, but that scarf soon became a hot commodity for a game of tug of war, and when the puppies decided it was a good toy, we could never keep the scarf on again without it getting ripped right back off!  The fun thing about goldens is how much they love people, and they are so curious about our phones when we take the pictures.  They seem to enjoy seeing pictures of themselves and even manage to push buttons on the phones! 

I had to add this extra squishy face picture of Otter, since I didn't get a good staged photo.  He didn't want to sit still for a photo shoot, he wanted to run off and play!!

10-10-26 6 Weeks Old

The puppies had their vet check today.  Everyone passed with flying colors!  They all got their first set of shots and their second round of de-wormer.  I will be sending them home with their vaccine record, which will also have the recommended shot schedule.   The puppies have been very affectionate, toddling up to us, wanting us to pick them up hold, and cuddle them like babies.  They love blankets and if we lay a blanket out anywhere in the yard, they will gravitate to the blanket and choose that area for their naps.  Mom is starting to wrestle them a bit, training them in self-defense and prepare them to leave her.  She is also trying to wean these babies with their sharp teeth and claws, but even though she wants to be done feeding them, she always gives in at least once or twice a day and complies with their demands for milk.  These healthy fat little snuggle monsters are ready to go in less than 2 weeks!  I will start reaching out to each of you next week to nail down times and places for drop off.

I had a little weekend getaway this week, so the kids were in charge of pictures.  They love using the log as a prop, because they can get the puppies to hold still for a minute when they prop them up this way!  Sorry, they just got one snap of each puppy this week, but I promise to post extra pictures and videos this weekend!

10-2-26 5 Weeks Old

The pups got acrobatic this week and learned to do chin-ups on the whelping box and learned to jump out!  We expected this would be happening soon and had the puppy pen ready to go for them.  Our puppy pen is a nice fenced-in area with a heated house enclosed in the play area.  The puppies can now run and play on the grass at will, but we still tuck them in at night and keep them in the heated area to keep them safe and warm.  One positive outcome of this next step is that it helps them begin crate training.  Puppies naturally don't like sleeping in their stink, so they learn to take care of their bathroom needs outside.  

The puppies are still eating and growing well.  We still soak their food in puppy formula first to make it nice and soft, but we will soon start transitioning to soaking it in water, and then we will soak it less and less until they are eating it straight from the bag, which is what they will be doing when they go home.  We will be sending a bag of dog food home with them!  Now that they are getting more nutrition from the supplemental food and water we are giving them, Mom is working on feeding them less and less and will try to have them weaned in the next week or so.

These little pups are very active and nearly impossible to photograph!  They are a riot to watch play and wrestle.  Last week may have been the last week we could get them to sit still for a group picture!

9-27-26 4 Weeks Old

These pups are growing by leaps and bounds, having doubled their weight once again and now weighing in at over 2 lbs!  The puppies each received a dewormer treatment last week, which is not because the puppies have worms, but rather a preventative treatment that should always be administered to small puppies.  They will receive their next dose in 2 weeks when we take them in for a vet check and their first set of shots.

We started the pups on solid food this week!  I like to use Pedigree puppy chow as I feel like this is a quality brand that is easily found in most grocery stores.  I will send each of our pups home with a bag of Pedigree, and you can choose to continue with this brand, or if you want to switch to another brand, you can use this and incorporate your new brand a little at a time to introduce your pup to a new food.  Switching brands cold turkey can sometimes cause tummy upset, so this is a good way to do it.

The puppies have loved having playtime outside this week and are starting to get a little braver about exploring new sights and scents.

9-20-26 3 Weeks Old

This week was a huge growing week for our little fur babies.  They are getting more and more stable on their feet and are starting to wrestle and play with each other, which is so funny to watch. They are also starting to bark and growl, which is so cute.  We took them outside and introduced them to grass for the first time, and they weren't quite sure what to think.  In the next week, we will be introducing solid food.  We do this by mixing puppy food with a puppy milk replacement and letting it soak until it's a mushy gruel.  The puppies will love it!   They are going to double their weight again in the next week and will be jumping out of the whelping box pretty soon, begging to go outside.  Right now, they still tucker out pretty quickly and enjoy piling in a heap and having a big nap together.  We gave them their first dewormer treatment this week and they did not think it tasted very good!  They will get their next dose at their 6-week vet checks.  By the end of week 4 next week, we would like to encourage our forever families to start making their picks so that by 5-6 weeks, all of our adoptive families know which puppy is theirs.  Once you know what name you will be calling your puppy, we will stop using our car-themed nicknames and refer to your boy or girl by their forever names.

We tried to get a good picture of the puppies wide awake and lifting up their chins so that you can see their sweet little faces, but this is an almost impossible feat at this age, as they get tired so quickly and they just want to lay down and sleep.  Here is our amateur photography attempt!  Next week, we will try to get some videos to aid you in making your picks.

9-12-26 2-Week-Old Shotgun Riders

The puppies have names and collars this week!  One of the things we adore most about our Golden Retrievers is their over-the-moon excitement to be our Ride or Dies, always up for an adventure, buddies.  Our name theme reflects this quality, and each of our puppies has been named after some of our favorite rides. The puppies are finally starting to open their eyes! A few of them are learning to walk as well.  It is so adorable watching them toddle around.  They are also starting to find their voices, and we are hearing cute little barks and growls!  The puppies now range in weight from our smallest girl, Sierra, weighing in at 1 lbs 7 oz, to our biggest pup, our male, Titan, weighing in at 1 lbs 14 oz. They are all growing so well, staying pretty close to the same weight range.  Sage is a good mama, making sure these puppies are fed and clean.

9-6-26 The Puppies Have Arrived!

Sage did absolutely fantastic bringing these babies into the world and has been a very proud and attentive mom as she takes care of them and keeps them warm and fed.  All 9 puppies appear to be healthy and strong, and we can't wait to see the beautiful dogs they grow to be.
